Congress President Rahul Gandhi will announce the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in the city on Wednesday.
Prior to launching the massive rally that will be held in the city of his birth, his ex- Congress chief will participate in a prayer gathering at the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s grave located in the Tamil Nadu state of Sriperumbudur.
Then, he’ll be arriving in Kanyakumari and visit Thiruvalluvar Memorial Vivekananda Memorial and to Kamraj Memorial. There will also be a prayer gathering on the Mahatama Gandhi Mandapam, following which Rahul Gandhi will officially launch the Yatra in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.

Three Chief Ministers are expected to be handing over the national flag to those participating in the rally. The rally will travel through 12 states and cover 3,500 kilometers between Kanyakumari up to Jammu and Kashmir over the span of five weeks (150 day). A total of 118 chiefs are expected to participate in the rally.
According to one Congress leader, the motive behind the march that carries the the national flag is to get other similar-minded parties as well as civil society organizations to join in the march.
Prior to the marches, Rahul Gandhi on Sunday stated that it is the state government that has blocked routes and that the opposition has no option other than to reach out to the people from across the country.
The yatra is scheduled to reach Kerala in September, and will remain there for 18 days prior to arriving in Karnataka the 30th of September. The yatra continues in Karnataka until 21 days.
The Congress has stated that the padyatra has the goal of to eliminate hatred.
The preliminary list of people who will take part in the yatra are Congress Youth leader Kanhaiya Kumar, Pawan Khera and former Punjab Minister Vijay Inder Singla among others.
