The Chenab Arch Bridge in Jammu & Kashmir is the highest railway bridge in the world.

It is made from steel with a total of 28,660 tonnes. The bridge has a 13-meter width and can be serviced for around 120 years.

Railway bridges are one of the most easily targeted targets in any terrorist attack or war. It can be destroyed by enemies to disrupt or cut off communication. This is impossible with Chenab Arch bridge. You read that right. This bridge is now blast-proof for the first time ever in the world thanks to the Defence Research and Development Organisation.

The highest railway bridge in the entire world, Chenab Arch (359 metres high), is located in Chenab Arch. It stands 35m higher than Paris’ Eiffel Tower. This bridge is now blast-proof for the first time in the history of the world thanks to DRDO,” tweeted PIB India via its official Twitter India.

Indian Railways has completed the arch construction for the world’s highest railway crossing over the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir on April 5, 2021. This bridge is a great example of engineering talent and makes every countryman proud. The bridge has made it possible to travel a distance that used to take hours in just minutes.

It is made from 28,660 metric tons of steel and measures 13 meters in width. It can be serviced for around 120 years. It measures 1315m in length and cost Rs 27949 crores.

While praising the structure, Prime Minister NarendraModi stated that this construction work not only showcases India’s growing strength within the field of cutting edge engineering and technology but also exemplifies India’s changed work culture.
